Isaac Pflaum’s 10 years of experience in information technology and legal services includes software development and integration, software patent prosecution and litigation support, and federal government service in the areas of science, technology and intellectual property policy and international trade and criminal fraud investigations. Isaac has diverse experience encompassing the prosecution of domestic and foreign patent applications and supporting patent litigation before the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), and federal district courts. Isaac is an experienced developer of software for high-performance and parallel computing environments. Isaac has also developed data-mining algorithms, asynchronous user interfaces, and database schemas for a variety of mobile and web-based applications.
At DisputeSoft, Isaac performs validity and infringement analyses relating to software patents during the discovery process and at trial. In particular, Isaac assists attorneys with source code review, analysis of patent claims, prior art research, claim charting, development of proposed claim constructions, and factual analysis of the prosecution history and extrinsic evidence to support claim construction. Isaac also assists clients in navigating Inter Partes Review (IPR), Post-Grant Review (PGR), and Covered Business Method Review (CBMR) proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board and has been involved in a variety of software failure and e-discovery cases.
Before joining DisputeSoft, Isaac attended Georgetown University Law Center as an evening student while working as a patent agent. Isaac also interned with the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. International Trade Commission, the Court of Federal Claims and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. During his internships, Isaac drafted court opinions, legal memoranda and motions for litigation, assisted in the examination of patent applications, and investigated violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Prior to attending law school, Isaac received a master’s degree in chemistry for developing massively parallel protein simulation software for the study of HIV and tuberculosis drug targets. Isaac was also a guest researcher in the Computational Science Center at Brookhaven National Laboratory.
