LTech Scam Costs Office Depot and Support.com Software Company $35M

    On March 27, 2019, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced that Office Depot and tech support software provider Support.com have agreed to pay a total of $35 million to settle allegations that the companies tricked consumers into purchasing technical and computer repair services by falsely claiming their software uncovered malware symptoms.

    According to the FTC, the companies configured Support.com’s PC Health Check software “to report that the scan found malware symptoms or infections whenever consumers answered yes to at least one of the four questions.”
