Community Health System to Pay $4.5M to Settle HIPAA Data Breach Lawsuit

    On February 20, 2019, Community Health Systems (CHS) agreed to pay $4.5 million to settle a class action HIPAA data breach lawsuit.

    The lawsuit began in August 2014, after a data breach, believed to be caused by malware installed by Chinese hackers on CHS’s computer system, resulted in the breach of approximately 4.5 million patients’ sensitive personal information.
