On October 4, 2021, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp experienced a six-hour outage.
The outage occurred in the midst of Facebook’s Senate hearing relating to the spreading of misinformation and hate on their platforms. However, Facebook Vice President of Infrastructure, Santosh Janardhan, claims there was “no malicious activity” on Facebook’s behalf that could have caused the outage.
