On January 10, 2019, the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the State of California announced an $800 million settlement with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) over software which allegedly cheated emissions tests.
The civil lawsuit began in May 2017, when the Justice Department filed a complaint alleging that the FCA Jeep Grand Cherokee and Ram 1500 diesel models contained software that limited polluting emissions only during emissions tests.
